ACHE Member Update
Ethics Committee Update
ACHE’s Ethics Committee is responsible for reviewing member grievances and recommending actions to the Board of Governors on allegations regarding Code of Ethics violations. During the 2022–2023 committee year, the Ethics Committee considered 11 issues involving ACHE members. Ten of these cases continue to be under investigation in 2023, with one case involving a membership suspension.
The Ethics Committee is also responsible for conducting annual evaluations of ACHE’s Code of Ethics and Grievance Procedure and recommending updates. In addition, the committee reviews ACHE’s existing Ethical Policy Statements and suggests revisions and topics for new statements. The Ethics Toolkit was also reviewed by an external expert, and no updates were made.
Ethics Committee members are ACHE Fellows who are appointed by the Board of Governors; they serve confidentially, with the exception of the committee chair, whose name is made public. The Code of Ethics, Ethical Policy Statements and other ethics resources are available. Be sure to check out the Ethics Self-Assessment, which allows you to evaluate your ethics-related leadership and actions, and how to address potential red flags identified in this process.
2023 Diversity Scholars Selected
Sixty-two scholars have been selected for the 2023 Thomas C. Dolan Executive Diversity Program (12) and the Career Accelerator Program (50). Over 300 high-caliber executives applied for these prestigious national programs, which provide education, mentoring and networking experiences to prepare diverse leaders for higher-level positions in hospitals, health systems and other settings.
The Executive Diversity Program has offered specialized leadership development for diverse leaders since it was established in 2014 by the Foundation of ACHE’s Fund for Healthcare Leadership to honor Thomas C. Dolan, PhD, FACHE, CAE, who served as president/CEO of ACHE from 1991 to 2013. The program honors his long-standing service to the profession of healthcare leadership and furthers his strong commitment to achieving greater diversity among senior healthcare leaders. In 2021, ACHE began offering the Career Accelerator Program, designed to support diverse midcareerists in their professional advancement.
In 2023, the Thomas C. Dolan Executive Diversity Program will consist of three in-person sessions and multiple virtual sessions, including live and recorded webinars, coaching and self-study materials. The Career Accelerator Program is exclusively virtual, consisting of 14 live sessions. Diversity scholars are empowered through a structured curriculum and activities that cultivate strong leadership presence; sharpen expertise in diversity, equity and inclusion; build critical leadership skills; and expand one’s capacity to navigate career opportunities. Both programs are six months in duration.
Both the Thomas C. Dolan Executive Diversity Program and the Career Accelerator Program are wholly funded by the Fund for Healthcare Leadership. Visit ache.org/DiversityPrograms to learn more about the 2023 scholars and the Diversity Programs.
